Loftus Road Massacre

Some people claim the Championship is the most competitive league in the world. Portsmouth clearly didn’t get the memo, or perhaps they thought they were playing a testimonial for a group of retired Sunday League veterans. In what can only be described as a ninety-minute exercise in clinical humiliation, Queens Park Rangers dismantled a Pompey side that looked like they’d spent their pre-match preparation testing the local hospitality rather than practicing their defensive shape.

It was ABSOLUTE CARNAGE from the opening whistle. By the time the half-time oranges were being sliced, the scoreboard already read 3-1, and even that felt like an act of extreme mercy. Portsmouth’s backline offered about as much resistance as a wet paper towel in a hurricane. For a brief, delusional moment after their lone goal, the away fans might have thought a comeback was on the cards, but The R's were simply catching their breath before a second-half clinic in how to bury a struggling opponent.

The second half was less of a football match and more of a public execution. QPR added three more goals to complete the 6-1 rout, turning Loftus Road into a private playground for their forwards. It was a display of finishing so ruthless it left the Portsmouth faithful wondering if their team had actually bothered to travel to London at all. DEFENSIVE SUICIDE is the only way to describe the way Pompey invited the hosts into their box time and time again, gift-wrapping opportunities like it was Christmas in March.

Before this demolition job, QPR were languishing in 17th, seemingly destined for a season of soul-crushing boredom. This win rockets them up to 12th, firmly ensconced in that cozy mid-table sofa where the only real worry is whether the stadium catering has run out of pies. For Portsmouth, the view is significantly more terrifying. Stuck in 21st and flirting with the drop zone, they are staring into the abyss of League One with the kind of desperation usually reserved for the last train home. If they continue to defend like this, they'll be ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS until they're relegated.
