Estrela shine bright while the Geese get cooked
If you were looking for a balanced tactical battle at the Estádio José Gomes, you clearly walked into the wrong stadium or perhaps the wrong decade. Estrela da Amadora decided that hovering around the lower rungs of the Primeira Liga was simply too mainstream and opted to play like a championship-winning juggernaut for precisely ninety minutes, much to the horror of a Casa Pia side that seemed to have forgotten the basic concept of "standing in the way of the ball."
Rodrigo Pinho got the party started after twelve minutes from the penalty spot, because why bother with the complexity of open play when you can just invite the referee to the festivities early? But the real star of this beautifully one-sided comedy was Abraham Marcus. The man didn't just score a hat-trick; he turned the Casa Pia backline into a collection of very stationary, very confused orange cones. His first at the 37-minute mark was a lovely reminder that marking is optional for some, and by the time he added his second in first-half stoppage time, the match had transitioned from a contest to a public service announcement.
Casa Pia's performance was, to put it mildly, DISASTROUS. Coming into this match sitting precariously in 15th and just above the drop zone, you’d expect a bit of grit, a bit of fight, or at least a discernible pulse. Instead, they offered the defensive resistance of a wet paper towel in a hurricane. By the time Marcus completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute, the only thing remaining for the visitors was the long, silent bus ride home and the sudden realization that the Segunda Liga is starting to look like a very realistic autumn destination.
This 4-0 demolition does wonders for Estrela, who now leapfrog into 13th and breathe the sweet, oxygen-rich air of mid-table safety. For Casa Pia, the view is much grimmer. They remain rooted in the relegation dogfight, staring at the bottom three with the kind of existential dread usually reserved for tax audits. If they keep playing like this, they won’t just be relegated; they might be SUEING their own recruitment department for negligence. It was a spectacle, certainly, but only if you enjoy watching a slow-motion demolition where one team forgot to bring the bricks.
TOTAL ANNIHILATION from the Tricolores.
