Chaos reigns on the South Coast

United’s defensive comedy troupe arrived in Bournemouth this weekend, and as usual, the script didn’t disappoint. Erik ten Hag’s men managed to escape the Vitality Stadium with a point they barely deserved, proving once again that having no midfield is a bold tactical choice that rarely pays off. For a team that supposedly wants to play in the Champions League, they spent a lot of time looking like they’d rather be at the beach.

The first half was a masterclass in watching paint dry. A 0-0 scoreline at the interval suggested two teams who had collectively forgotten where the goal was. It was a snooze-fest that even the most dedicated tactics nerd would struggle to defend. But whatever was in the half-time tea worked wonders, because the second period turned into an ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES of the highest quality.

Bournemouth, who sat 12th in the table before kickoff, played with the kind of freedom that only comes from knowing you’re already safe and your opponents are terrified of their own shadow. Dominic Solanke and Justin Kluivert treated the United backline like training cones. If Bournemouth had any semblance of clinical finishing, they could have put six past Andre Onana. Instead, they had to settle for two, which usually isn't enough when you're playing against a team that lives for VAR rescues.

United, who started the day in 6th and are doing their best to fall even further, relied entirely on Bruno Fernandes. As per usual, Bruno was the only one who seemed to realize there was a game happening. His brace was the only thing standing between United and a total Dorset disaster. It’s a MIRACULOUS escape for a club that seems to have replaced their defensive structure with a "vibes and prayers" approach.

This result leaves United drifting aimlessly in the standings, with their European hopes looking more like a distant hallucination than a realistic goal. Bournemouth will feel robbed, but they’ve proven once again that they can bully the "big six" without breaking a sweat. For United, it’s just another Saturday of being consistently inconsistent.
