The League One Galacticos meet the Robins

St Andrew’s plays host to a League Cup tie that feels like a glitch in the Matrix. On one hand, we have Birmingham City, a club that decided the best way to handle relegation was to spend money like a drunken sailor at a luxury watch auction. On the other, Bristol City, a team so consistently mid-table in the Championship that they’ve basically become the division’s official wallpaper.

Birmingham are currently the RELENTLESS juggernaut of League One, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 29 points. They are organized, sturdy, and occasionally capable of a decent result, but they lack the cinematic drama currently unfolding in the West Midlands.

Birmingham have the momentum, the ego, and the expensive shiny toys. Bristol City have... well, they have a very nice stadium and a decent cider selection.
