Welcome to the New Balance Arena, or as the locals call it, the place where Gian Piero Gasperini tries to convince us that running twelve miles a game is a valid substitute for a trophy cabinet. Atalanta BC, the team that refuses to die despite selling their best players every six months, welcomes the Bavarian machine that is FC Bayern München for this Champions League Round of 16 clash.

Atalanta finished a respectable but unglamorous 15th in the league phase. They have 13 points, which in Italy is enough to get you a pat on the back and a nice espresso, but in Europe, it usually just gets you a date with a giant. They are currently sitting 7th in Serie A, perfectly positioned to qualify for the Conference League and pretend they enjoy playing in Azerbaijan on Thursday nights.

Then we have Bayern. The Germans finished 2nd in the league phase with 21 points because apparently losing more than once is against their constitution. They are currently top of the Bundesliga with a goal difference of +68. PLUS SIXTY-EIGHT. They aren't just winning games; they are committing legalised bullying every Saturday afternoon.

Gasperini’s tactical "chaos" usually involves man-marking opponents into the parking lot, but trying that against Jamal Musiala is like trying to catch a shadow with a fishing net. Harry Kane is still hunting for that elusive team trophy, and he’s currently treating the Champions League like his personal golden boot delivery service.

Atalanta will fly out of the blocks, look dangerous for twenty minutes, and then realize that Bayern’s bench costs more than the entire city of Bergamo. It’s the classic battle of the underdog who believes in miracles versus the juggernaut that believes in spreadsheets and overwhelming force.

Prediction: Atalanta 1-3 Bayern Munich
