Well, well, well. Another day, another cup tie, and another entirely PREDICTABLE outcome as Chelsea – currently floundering around 10th in the Premier League – decided to finally remember they're a top-flight club, dispatching Championship strugglers Luton Town (who sit a comfortable 20th in their own division) with a clinical, if somewhat uninspired, 2-0 victory in the EFL Cup.

The first half was, to put it mildly, an exercise in patience. Or perhaps, for Luton fans, an exercise in false hope. The scoreboard stubbornly refused to budge from 0-0 at the break, leaving some Chelsea supporters wondering if their multi-million-pound squad had somehow forgotten where the goal was. This, against a side whose primary ambition for the season is likely to avoid relegation from the Championship. It wasn't exactly a pulsating advertisement for English football.

It won't affect their league standings, of course, but it keeps a potential trophy dream alive – a dream that might just be their only solace this season.

As for Luton, their cup adventure ends here. Back to the grind of the Championship, where they’ll battle it out with teams more their own size. The brief flirtation with a Premier League giant is over, and reality bites hard. They tried, they failed, and frankly, nobody is surprised.
